Army Public School Ambala Recruitment 2026: Minimum Qualifications by Level
The minimum qualifications for PGT, TGT and PRT posts follow guidelines issued by NCTE, CBSE and KV Sangathan. In some instances AWES has raised the minimum standards further for the benefit of students.
- PGT (Post Graduate Teacher): Post-Graduation with 50% aggregate, plus a B.Ed. from an NCTE-recognized institution with 50% aggregate. PGTs are eligible to teach classes IX-XII.
- TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher): Graduation with 50% aggregate, plus a B.Ed. from an NCTE-recognized institution with 50% aggregate. TGTs are eligible to teach classes VI-X.
- PRT (Primary Teacher): Graduation with 50% aggregate, plus B.El.Ed. or a two-year D.El.Ed. from an NCTE-recognized institution. Teachers already in service with Army Public Schools/APPS prior to 11 Aug 2023 with a B.Ed. degree can also apply or continue, subject to enrolment/completion of the Bridge Course launched by NCTE. PRTs are eligible to teach classes I-V.
Two notes apply. A Post-Graduate with less than 50% aggregate in Graduation can still apply for TGT/PRT if they scored 50% or more aggregate in Post-Graduation. Aggregate percentage is based on the marks for the entire duration of Graduation/Post-Graduation.
Other Posts
- Librarian: Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, OR a Graduate with a one-year diploma in Library Science.
- Counsellor: Graduate with Psychology, or Graduate with a Diploma in counselling, with minimum experience of three as Wellness Teacher/Counsellor (the document does not state the unit).
- Special Educator: Graduate with B.Ed. (Special Education); OR B.Ed. (General) with a one-year or two-year Diploma in Special Education; OR B.Ed. (General) with a Post Graduate Professional Diploma in Special Education (PGPC); OR a Post Graduate Diploma in Special Education (PG DSE) in specific areas like Mental Retardation or Multiple Disabilities.
- IT Supervisor: Advance Diploma or Diploma in Computing & Hardware, with knowledge in at least two of: (a) Networking and LAN Administration, (b) Operating Systems, (c) RDBMS with programming, and proficiency in one language.
- Innovation Lab Instructor: A graduate degree (B.E. or B.Tech.) in Computer Science/IT/Electronics and Communication, or a Master’s degree (MCA/M.Tech/MSc Computer Science), is typically required. Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, Java), AI, Robotics, IoT, and knowledge of emerging technologies is essential. A minimum of 1-3 years of relevant teaching or work experience is frequently preferred.
- Shooting Coach: Graduate plus a Certificate on Shooting Coach. The candidate must be a former International Shooter, a National Medalist, or a recognized shooter with extensive experience, with a minimum of three years of active coaching experience. The NIS Diploma in Coaching is highly preferred. The ISSF Coaches License (C, B, or A Level) is a major added advantage. NRAI certification is also listed.
CTET/TET Requirement
CTET/TET is not mandatory for appearing in the Online Screening Test. However, the applicable CTET/TET conducted by the Central/State government is mandatory at the time of appointment as TGTs/PRTs, so candidates must clear it before appointment. Candidates who have not qualified CTET/TET but are found fit in all other aspects may be considered for vacancies which may be ADHOC in nature.
Candidates must also ensure they fulfil NCTE rules, regulations and notifications, KV Sangathan recruitment rules and Appendix-VII of CBSE Affiliation Bye-Laws 2018 before registering for the OST.
Age and Experience Criteria
Age and experience are calculated as on 01 April of the year of appointment.
Army Spouses: Those below 40 years need nil teaching experience. Those aged 40 to 55 need 05 years of teaching experience, which is cumulative.
Others: Those below 40 years need nil experience. Those aged 40 to 55 need 05 years of experience in the last ten years, and this is mandatory.
For both groups, experience must be in the appropriate category. For PGT, the candidate should have worked as PGT/TGT, and experience gained as PRT in the same period is not counted. For TGT, experience gained as PRT is accepted, per extant qualifications laid down by regulatory bodies.
Weightage for Army Spouses
Army Spouses receive weightage points in the interview selection process:
- Nil experience: 04 points
- 05 years and above: 08 points
- 07 years and above: 09 points
- 09 years and above: 10 points
PGT Subject Requirements
A PGT needs one of the following: a two-year Integrated Post Graduate MA/M.Sc. course of the Regional College of Education of NCERT in the concerned subject with at least 50% aggregate; a Post-Graduation with minimum 50% marks and a three-year integrated B.Ed./M.Ed.; or a Master’s degree with at least 50% aggregate in the relevant subject:
- English: English
- Hindi: Hindi or Sanskrit with Hindi as one of the subjects at graduation level
- Economics: Economics/Applied Economics/Business Economics
- History, Geography, Political Science, Psychology, Home Science, Fine Arts, Biotechnology, Accountancy, Business Studies: the same subject
- Mathematics: Mathematics/Applied Mathematics
- Physics: Physics/Electronics/Applied Physics/Nuclear Physics
- Chemistry: Chemistry/Bio Chemistry
- Biology: Botany/Zoology/Life Science/Bio Science/Genetics/Microbiology/Bio Tech, provided they studied Botany/Zoology at graduation level
PGT Computer Science needs at least 50% aggregate in one of: B.E./B.Tech (Computer Science/IT); B.E./B.Tech (any stream) plus a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer; M.Sc. (Computer Science)/MCA; B.Sc. (Computer Science)/BCA plus a Post Graduate degree; a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer plus a Post Graduate degree in any subject; or ‘B’ Level from DOEACC plus Graduation.
PGT Informatics Practices needs at least 50% aggregate in one of: B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science/IT/Computer Engineering/Electronics/Electronics & Communications; M.C.A./M.Sc. Computer Science/IT; M.Sc. Math/Physics/Statistics with B.Sc. Computer Science/BCA/3yr Diploma in Computer Engineering or IT/PGDCA recognized by AICTE; or B Level from DOEACC.
Both computer posts also require a B.Ed. or equivalent from an NCTE-recognized university/institution with minimum 50% aggregate, proficiency in teaching in English and Hindi, and knowledge of Computer Application.
TGT Subject Requirements
A TGT needs a Four-year Integrated Degree Course of the Regional College of Education of NCERT with at least 50% aggregate; or a Post-Graduation with minimum 50% and a three-year integrated B.Ed./M.Ed.; or a Bachelor’s degree with at least 50% in the concerned subjects:
- Sanskrit, Hindi, English: the subject in all three years of graduation
- Social Studies: any two of History, Geography, Economics and Political Science, of which one must be History or Geography
- Mathematics: Mathematics with any two of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Computer Science, Statistics
- Science: any two of Botany, Zoology, Chemistry and Physics
- Computer Science: BCA or Graduation in Computer Science, or BE/B.Tech (Computer Science/IT), or Graduation in any subject with an A level course from DOEACC
Other requirements are a B.Ed. with minimum 50% marks, a pass in CTET/TET, proficiency in teaching in English and Hindi medium, and knowledge of Computer Application.
Physical Education Posts
PGT (Physical Education) needs B.P.Ed./BPE/B.Sc. in Health and Physical Education with at least 55% marks under NCTE Regulations, 2009; or at least 50% in an Integrated 4-year B.P.Ed. under the Regulations of 10.12.2007; or B.P.Ed. with at least 55% or a 3-year B.P.E. course with at least 50% under the Regulations of 13.11.2002. And an M.P.Ed. of at least 2 years from an NCTE-recognized institution.
TGT and PRT (Physical Education) share a long list of alternatives, including a Bachelor’s degree with Physical Education as an elective with 50% marks; 45% marks with National, State or Inter-University participation; 40% in Physical Education; NCC ‘C’ Certification; or representing State/University in sports. Candidates also need a Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed) of at least one year duration (or equivalent) from an NCTE-recognized institution.
